Interesting question! Sure, I think that’s possible. I mean, not everyone has the innate talent required to excel in a given field, even with good mentorship. I could find an amazing tennis coach, for example, but I’d never make it to a Wimbledon doubles match—I just don’t have the physical ability for it. There’s actually a great test for recognizing whether you’re an expert yet: you can easily identify common misunderstandings about the field that other people have. So, to find an American who knows a lot about Brazil, you’d ask them for the capital of Brazil. If they could say, “It’s Brasilia, but most people think it’s Rio,” then they’re actually somebody who knows something. Thanks for reading!
